Seawall tiebacks:
what to ask.

By Naples Seawall RepairsUpdated: 2026-10-26

Anchor work needs space behind the wall and a clear design. Ask what connects the wall to stable ground and how existing utilities affect the work.

What supports the anchor recommendation?

Ask how the existing system was evaluated, which connections are affected and what ground information is available. A surface visit may leave buried parts unobserved.

Request the proposed anchor type and the designer’s basis. Do not choose a system solely because it fits a contractor’s standard equipment.

Map the upland work area

  • Locate pools, foundations, pavers and planting.
  • Identify utility corridors and existing easements.
  • Mark where equipment and excavated material can go.
  • Obtain any needed neighboring-owner permission.

For City projects, account for published staging restrictions in the method and price.

Compare secondary anchors with a full system

Supplemental anchors and replacement of a complete deadman system are different scopes. Read the published anchor-price context with that distinction in mind.

Ask whether engineering, access, cap connections and restoration are included. Confirm how the contractor will document installation and any required inspections.

Compare anchor proposals using the same drawing

Ask whether the price covers a secondary support system or replacement of an existing system; those descriptions are not interchangeable. Keep exclusions for concealed obstacles and access visible. Request the revised layout and approval record if a planned anchor location must change, so future owners can understand the installed work.

Use this to compare the proposed work
Scope itemWhat to request
System and quantity
Identify the proposed anchor system, layout and connections, with the designer’s basis for selecting it.
Upland access
Mark utilities, pools, patios, landscaping and the work area needed behind the wall.
Verification
Ask what installation records or specified checks demonstrate the work was completed as designed.
Surface restoration
Identify the affected ground and improvements and the standard for returning them to service.

Keep the design and installed record together

Save the approved plan, installation observations and final changes. If new cracking or movement appears, those records make the next assessment more useful.

Combine the anchor scope with any needed cap repair and drainage work.
